Very different twins

These twins may have been almost the same weights at birth but their personalities couldn’t be more different. Melissa was born at 1 lb 10 oz and Christian I lb 11 oz. Their mom had fast paced pre-term labor and they were delivered via emergency c-section on May 2, 2014.

Melissa is a feisty little girl who often loses her hand privileges by playing tricks on the nurses. She has successfully extubated herself and removed IVs and sensors. She loves to play with the lead wires, and to be cuddled. She has successfully transitioned to CPAP after once again extubating herself this week. Melissa suffered from necrotizing enterocolities (NEC) early in life. NEC is a very scary disease for preemies. It nearly took her life and her parents were terrified. She’s still receiving IV nutrition but is making great strides.

Christian is a sweet little boy, generally mellow unless somebody tries to move him to his back. Then he becomes very cranky. His favorite “activity” is kangaroo care. He has the sweetest smile and shares it with his mom and dad often. His tiny heart has already had surgery to fix its PDA and enlarged left ventricle.

These sweet twins have five siblings at home who cannot stand their excitement about having their brother and sister come home soon. This family is on quite a journey in the NICU and Eden’s Garden is so grateful to help them. Please make a donation today so that we can help more families.
