Azarias was born April 3rd 2014 with a condition called gastrochisis. Gastrochisis is a very scary defect in which the abdominal contents protrude from the baby’s belly. This little cutie has had surgeries to repair this condition and he is doing very well. His mom was able to kangaroo care- hold him skin to skin shortly after his surgery. This was an amazing bonding experience for mom and baby that families often miss out on when they have a premature baby. Azarias has had some difficulties with being able to consume the amounts needed to allow the family to be discharged and it has been a very slow process. This family has been making their journey work and working on getting Azarias healthy and strong.
